Mr. Brett D. Smith, PE brings a unique perspective to his presentations, as a result of his diverse educational and professional background that spans more than 30 years.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Utah, a Master’s degree in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines, is a registered professional engineer (PE) in Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington and a licensed professional geologist (PG) in Washington. Brett is a regulatory compliance expert, with an emphasis in 40CFR112, aka the SPCC Rule.

Brett has a Master’s degree from the prestigious Colorado School of Mines, rated the best engineering college in America by USA Today (2014).  Brett is a regulatory compliance expert, with special emphasis in 40CFR112, aka the SPCC Rule. His clients include Petroleum Marketers, Electric Utilities, Agricultural Oil Suppliers, a Nuclear Fuel Processor, a Nuclear Power Plant, a Fertilizer Manufacturer, Food Processors, Port Authorities, a national Construction firm, Metal Recyclers, Land Developers, Farmers, Environmental and Geotechnical Engineering firms, Automobile Dealerships and myriad other commercial and retail clients. 

In 1987, after a brief stint in the Oil Industry, Brett retooled himself into Environmental Engineering by reviewing / designing engineering plans and ops narratives for solid waste landfills and by designing / performing "Phase 2" site characterizations, hydrogeological investigations and environmental / geotechnical geophysical surveys.

After obtaining his PE credential in 2000, he specialized in the SPCC Rule by performing SPCC Compliance Reviews and preparing SPCC Plans for more than 140 facilities. After obtaining his Tank Inspector certification in 2003, he has conducted tank inspections using the Steel Tank Institute’s industry-accepted SP001 Tank Inspection Standard.
